stash report September 17, 2023 from Making A Lather

I attended a quilt show in Lafayette last week and bought some flannel for donation quilts at 2.00 per yard. I was thinking of the trip around the world quilt I made earlier this year. I didn't take any quilt pictures. oh well

Sunday Stash September 17, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

I finished the challenge quilt, now named Still Life, for some fabric out. It’s always a relief to get those quilts finished on time.

I won’t get the next challenge until the 26th, which leaves time to do something else. With lots going on between now and then, a handful of small projects makes the most sense.

I pulled fabric to make pillowcases. A lot of bedding made its way into the rag bin this year, and we need replacements.

My sister’s quilt needs a label.

I would also like to frame Words of Joy Tree ...

We traveled to Pendleton Indiana for a lovely quilt show. It was held in the county historical museum. Behind the beautiful quilts, was all the historical museum pieces which was an interesting bonus. I did add a few fabric pieces to my stash from their fabric sales. haha

No change in the numbers.

I’m stitching facing on the challenge piece, which means a finish soon.

I mentioned last week I’m using a Robison-Anton rayon for the quilting, a thread I’d not tried before. It stitched fine, no tangles or breaks. It doesn’t have the sheen of some of the other rayons, but more of a flat finish. There is a bit of a twist to the thread that reminds me of a buttonhole twist. The line also contains many solid and variegated colors.

It’s a thread I’ll keep in mind if I ...

No fabric in this week.

I used 1/4 yard of fabric for a quilt binding.

Once that quilt was finished I returned to working on the challenge quilt. The top is together and I’m totally underwhelmed. I have big hopes that the quilting and some embellishment will liven it up.

I had questions last week about the brand of thread I bought. It’s a Robison-Anton rayon in the color Sky Blue. I’m not sure on the weight, but it looks thinner than Sulky. I plan to use it on this quilt, but that could change. Quilting ...

Friday check in: lunacy, forest preserves, stash report, and something new from With Strings Attached

Wednesday evening I was among the "lunatics" at the beach who watched the supermoon/blue moon rise over Lake Michigan.  The moon popped at the horizon the way the sun does, but white rather than yellow.  7:42 p.m. on the dot.

With the brisk northeast breeze I was glad I brought my windbreaker.

We went to Ryerson Conservation Area on Wednesday and Marl Flat on Thursday for Hike Lake County.  If you've been counting -- I certainly have! -- these are #10 and #11.

Bull thistle, cutleaf coneflower (also called green-headed coneflower), ironweed, scarlet lobelia.

I had a finish this week which makes me happy, and, helps with the yearly stash numbers.

At open sew, yesterday, someone, surprised me with a quilt top that she had made with fabric that I had donated last month. First of all, the turnaround time was impressive, and, the fact, that she knew it was my fabric donation. It makes it much easier to let go of my precious fabric knowing someone will enjoy it. She has plans to add a border, too, from some of it.

wow

No change in the numbers. I went to a quilt shop yesterday and everything was 20% off, but I didn’t buy fabric.

I only bought one spool because it’s a new brand for me. My machine can be a bit temperamental about thread. I can get more later if it works out.

I will definitely have a finish this week. I’m running out of month for my OMG.

stash report August 20, 2023 from Making A Lather

I am working on an older ufo called spoolin around. I found the pink I wanted for the setting triangles in my stash, but, I couldn't find a green I like with it for the border. I went through everything on the shelves. anything, I liked I did not have a large enough piece. I have a million yards of fabric, how could I not have what I needed? I checked my back up storage, ahem, yes it is a real thing. Still nothing. I even tried to change colors. So, I repeated the process with blues. I had ...

No change in the numbers.

I finished beading Words of Joy Tree. I have a frame for it and hope to fully finish it before the holidays.

The next hand project is an afghan my sister started crocheting for her grandson. I learned to crochet as a child and have made things on and off through the years. I enjoy crochet, just not as much as other things.

No one else in the family knows how, so I volunteered to finish it after she passed.

I’ll probably start another stitch project too, but not today.

I didn't buy any new fabric this week. I did find a pile of leftover fabric from my Kristal quilt, and thought I should decide what to do with it, since, I didn't want to put it away. haha

I think I want to make the cover quilt in the bright colors. It is a stack and whack and should be fun. Now I can put the fabric away in a nice box with a book to read until I can get to them.

No change in the numbers. There’s still a lot of life going on around here.

I finished quilting the center of my sister’s quilt. Since she already started it, I had to continue quilting it the same way. I still need to bury more threads and quilt the borders.

I also need to find a binding fabric that looks like it belongs with the prints in the top. I’m thinking a medium or light blue would look nice.

No change in the numbers.

I realized Friday I never posted a picture of the Tiny Modernist SAL after I framed it.

I picked up the frame at my local Goodwill. I used pins instead of lacing the back, which saved a ton of time. I’m happy with the final piece.

I do wish it had anti-glare glass. I could not get a picture anywhere in the house without a weird reflection. Sorry about the random vertical glare lines!

Weekly update: two finishes + the stash report from With Strings Attached

This week's walks were at Spring Bluff (close to home) and Ethel's Woods.

 Vervain.

Purple coneflower, meadow sweet.

Sawtooth sunflower, white monarda.

Tansy, pinnate prairei coneflower.

There are signs at both preserves that explain the history of the property.

We saw the movie Oppenheimer on Saturday afternoon.  We arrived in plenty of time, so much so that we had to sit through nearly a half hour of commercials and previews before the three-hour feature began.  It was thought-provoking. Once I got home I looked up the people, some of whom I'd heard of but others who were ...

I finished the challenge quilt this week, which I have now named Wallflower. For all the time I spent on it, it didn’t use much fabric. Every little bit out helps though.

I will post more info on Wallflower after the reveal at Tuesday’s meeting. For now I have a sneak peak.

The painted lace motif is 2.5 inches across.

I did not add any fabric this week.
